Ah, schadenfreude in the age of social media....  I came across this from Dangerous Minds.

Imagine trees (all the right height, of course) at the beginning of autumn.  One leaf turns color, then several, then more.  They start to fall one by one, then three, then before you know it, the whole tree is bare.

Or this: a ship that is slowly sinking.... a couple of rats figure it out early and jump.  But there are still many more who either don't know it's sinking or simply won't believe it's sinking.  Well, the ship sinks, the rats get wet and they figure it's time to boogie.

This is pretty much what's happening to poor Mitt Romney in Facebook land....

More below....

His 'likes' are descending at such a rapid pace that you can actually watch him lose followers in real time.

Slate via Dangerous Minds

The Washington Post’s Caitlin Dewey calculated on Friday that the erstwhile candidate was shedding Facebook fans at a clip of 593 per hour. Or nearly 10 per minute. Or one every six seconds. Or… you get the idea. By the time Mashable wrote about the phenomenon on Saturday, that number was up to 847 per hour. I didn’t get all scientific about it when I checked Romney’s page this morning, but suffice it to say the exodus is not abating. Facebookers are jumping off the Romney bandwagon faster than you can say “MySpace.”
I tried it.  It's for real.  Mitt's Facebook page - check it out for yourself.

Losing friends is so much sadder when the world can watch it in real time.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
