Keeping this short. A terrible accident in Midland TX has left 4 dead.

NBC station KWES of Midland said the tractor-trailer was part of the Show of Support / Hunt for Heroes parade carrying veterans and their spouses to a banquet in their honor. The benefit dinner was being put on by Show of Support, Military Hunt Inc. in Midland on Thursday night, according to the organization's website.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

To me progress is not so much a goal as it is a process and I believe it will not follow a straight course. Remember, the drops of water that form the river may not take the shortest path but they will still reach the ocean.

You can't mess with trains. They always win.

over a railroad crossing??  Haven't there been enough 'accidents' over the last 150+ years that have proven that the train always win??  If this was a semi with a flat bed trailer, yes, it's big.  Yes, it will win in accidents with other -18 wheel surface vehicles.... but it will still always loose to a train.

Those poor families.  First the heart wrenching news of loved ones seriously injured, then the hopes of recovery/better future, then this......

There are a number of 'hunting' organizations out there that are doing 'similar' outings for injured veterans.  Last week the Black Hawk Pheasants Forever Chapter with the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior had a hunt and sponsored several veterans.  I'm sure to hear about it tomorrow or next week, as my brother in law was/is part of that group.

PS - I wouldn't want to be that train engineer either.

My paternal grandfather was a railroad engineer and I've heard his stories of the accidents he was involved with.  He was exempt from WWII because he was a railroad engineer.

In my area there is a railroad crossing where the rails are higher than the road where cars and trucks pass over the rails.

Big semi's with low beds are always getting stuck there with an oncoming train.  Why they are allowed to travel there and over those tracks is mind boggling to me.

Forgive me if I am misreading what happened in this case to be similar.

correctly, the driver to cross when the lights were flashing and the gates coming down? Why? Why do people do this?
Is it really that hard to wait?

apparently. may not have been the driver of the hit vehicle at fault: apparently this was the second of the two -- the first "beat the train".
