Today a coalition of 13 Islamic rebel groups in northwestern Syria - including the al-Qaida related Jabhat al-Nusrain - rejected the recent efforts by Western and Gulf countries to reorganize the Syrian opposition, which resulted in the formation of SNCORF last week, and announced the formation of ‘the Islamic State of Aleppo’.
Also today, serious fighting broke out between the FSA and Kurdish groups in Ras al-Ayn. Control of much of the town, which is heavily Kurdish and on the Turkish-Syrian border, was seized when the FSA attacked it 12 days ago. Most of the town's residents fled when the attack began and it has been mostly abandoned since then.
