(This is a re-post from last year, but it applies again this year.)

Ok.  Soap box time again

I think it is sad that a special and unique American Holiday is being corrupted further by "Black Friday" starting the night of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving in America is a celebration that people of all faith traditions celebrate together. It is a time even Atheists pause and are thankful for the blessings in their life. What other time do Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and about every other religion you can name pause and celebrate family, friends, and the blessings of being in America? Yes, we celebrate by stuffing our bellies and being gluttonous, but food is the best bonding tool and brings people together. I do not want Thanksgiving reduced to just being the day Christmas sales start. Leave that for the day after where it belongs.

Ok...stepping back off the soapbox.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

this country immerse yourself in another culture, their values and their ways. After awhile turn around and look back at see our country and our culture from this other perspective.

Everybody wil see it differently but to me it looked like we were collectively insane like hamsters running on wheels endlessly and never really getting anywhere. At this point it appears that we worship nothing but money and things. It has become the great obsession. As a result everything suffers from our chidlren to our commons.

I can only hope we will learn our lesson one day. Me I am going to enjoy every minute of my nutty famiy for just who they are, from my cranky mean old aunt to my 6'5 construction worker cousin who drinks his wine and starts giggling like a high school girl. Black friday I will leave for the crazies :) I am content with a full heart and a full belly.

    Happy Thanksgiving.
