Summary: Use Obama for America (OFA) to help folks enroll in Obamacare.
From HuffPost
Experts view the success of the exchanges as central to the effectiveness of Obamacare in helping those who currently lack health coverage....The fear is that if the exchanges do not quickly take shape -- if disorganization reigns and the marketplaces sow frustration -- some of the uninsured may give up, and others may get lost in the bureaucratic shuffle.
Also:
Resistance among strongly anti-Obamacare states could cause problems, especially for low-income people, warned Caroline Pearson, a director at the consulting company Avalere Health. Lack of coordination between a state and the federal government could create "widespread" roadblocks for people eligible for Medicaid and stymie the exchanges' one-stop-shopping principle, she said.
So how can the progressive community help the most?
What we need is a highly organized team of dedicated volunteers to contact lots of people and help them work "the system" to enroll in Obamacare. Hmm. That sounds like OFA.
The picture:
a. The planning staff of OFA spend the next 6 months working out the details.
b. The development staff generate funds for the infrastructure costs.
c. In July through September, the OFA volunteers are trained in the intracacies of Obamacare.
d. October 2013 - We enroll LOTS of folks in Obamacare.
And if we happen to help them register to vote, even better.
And if we log them into the next election cycle GOTV system, even better.
Open questions: Help the folks in Red States or Blue States first? Help the folks with state-based exchanges first (who probably have some state-based help available), or the folks with no state exchanges, who probably get no help?
(Btw - will an Obamacare enrollment card have a picture? If so, could it be used to circumvent the Repub vote-blocking schemes?)
Would this work?
