Fame Brief: The Busy Lawyer’s Guide to ‘Aggravated Pimping’
DSK’s most recent charge raises an important issue: What is aggravated pimping? And if pimpin’ ain’t easy, isn’t all pimping “aggravated pimping”? According to this blogger, whose analysis sounds good to me because I’m too lazy to check it, the French charge of “aggravated pimping” likely involves some aggravating circumstance, such as paying for prostitutes with corporate funds or paying for annoying prostitutes with your own money. Apparently most U.S. states also have “aggravated promotion of prostitution” statutes, which make angry pimping a more serious crime than relaxed pimping — which makes sense from a public policy perspective.
But what about the millions of permissible P.I.M.P.s who just happen to be having a bad day? Are they at risk of breaking the law? And where do we draw the line between perfectly legal Big Pimpin’ and illegal aggravated pimping?

Strauss-Kahn warned over alleged prostitution ring
Former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn was formally warned Monday that he is under investigation for "aggravated pimping" for his alleged participation in a prostitution ring in France, prosecutors said.
He is not allowed to have contact with other people involved in the investigation, nor is he permitted to talk to the media about the case. Strauss-Kahn was released under a 100,000-euro bail, according to prosecutors.
Strauss-Kahn is now at a point in the French legal system that comes after an arrest and before charges.
Earlier in the day, he was questioned by a judge about his alleged involvement in the ring. The meeting was initially scheduled for Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the judge told CNN it was the judge's decision to change the date, but did not say why the decision was made.

Lawyers representing DSK have rejected the accusations, calling them politically motivated. Henri Leclerc, DSK’s attorney, had accepted that his client attended sex parties, but argued that “he could easily have not known [the women were prostitutes], because, as you can imagine, at these kind of parties you’re not always dressed,” before adding “I challenge you [speaking to radio commentator on Europe1] to distinguish a naked prostitute from any other naked woman,” according to WSJ.com.
If found guilty, DSK could face up to 20 years in prison and €3 million in fines. The former IMF chief has already paid €100,000 in bail and is in probation. According to Le Figaro, the judges have charged that DSK wasn’t just a simple client, but that he took part in operating the prostitution network.

It's hard out here for a Dominique Strauss-Kahn. First he was accused of rape, then he was questioned about a prostitution ring, and now he's being charged for his involvement. Now, "aggravated pimping" is a hilarious term, but what does it mean legally? Allow CNN to explain.
The charge alleges involvement in the habitual operation of a prostitution racket. Specifically, "aggravated' means on a regular and involved basis, and "pimping" means actually facilitating a prostitution operation, not just being a customer.
Prostitution isn't actually illegal in France, but making money off of someone else's prostitution is. Last December, DSK's lawyer Henri Leclerc admitted that his client attended sex parties, but he claimed that he was not aware the women there were prostitutes. If the latest charges against Strauss-Kahn are true, he was more than a mere attendee.
DSK has been released on 100,000-euro bail. He is not permitted to talk to the media, and will likely not be attending any sex parties while this investigation continues.

It is never looks good to have a leftist engaging in sex acts that draw scandal, but this guy makes Bill Clinton look like a Quaker. Even in France, renowned for lax sexual
mores, this man goes too far and has zero respect for women. Even when it's allowed to engage in questionable activities, he can't get along in the system. This man made decisions with world wide ramifications at the IMF and was a primary away from the French presidency. Berlusconi anyone?
I'm not normally one to point the finger over sexual indiscretions, but... Really? Alleged rape, then prostitution, and then aggravated pimping?! France. Politically exile this man. Please.
