I have always tried to make a point of tuning in to poligirl's "Favorite Songs Diaries" each Tuesday evening. They were always fun, always well done, and always a pleasnt respite from the sturm and drang on this site. She did a fantastic job, and was a wonderful host of the series.
Thank you very much, poligirl, for all of the effort you put into sustaining this series for as long as you did. I am happy to know that the reigns you held so skillfully for so long will be taken up by others here, and the series will endure.
On this eve of the changing of the guard, I wanted to post a few songs as a tribute to what you have done...and the bonds formed along the way. There's no real theme here...just songs that come to my mind as I look back upon your stint at the turntable. We no longer live in the age of DeeJays anymore...sadly. Radio pretty much sucks. Your diaries were like a DKos radio show, in which we all participated...old school FM in a way.
I don't know you, but I managed to glean a few details over the course of your diaries. I know you once worked in a bar that was, if not full on C&W, at least played C&W on the weekends. So you managed to acquire an appreciation for some Country music over the years. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 56, and judging by the tunes you often posted, I'm guessing you are early Gen X, as they say. On foot in the 70's, another foot in the 80's. That's just a guess.
Anyway, I wanted to put out some songs this evening that I dedicate to you. I hope others here who have enjoyed your Favorite Songs Diaries will post their own songs.
The theme, if you can call it that, is Thanks for a job well done...and songs that, for whatever reason, come to mind when we think of all the diaries you have posted here, and the enjoyment they brought.
Round about 5:00 PM on a Tuesday, I would remember that it was Favorite Songs Night here on DKos, and would find myself anticipating it's posting soon. So, my first dedication is an old Stones song that captures that waiting for your appearance here, with a sweet Country sound to it.
Tuesday evenings is like the DKos Piano Bar...
Woah yeah...What'd I say?
There's Tuesday...and the rest of the week is Inbetween days...
Thanks again for all the tunes, poligirl...whoever you are...
So...until Tuesday...
