More and more economists are saying that once outsourced jobs are now coming back to America. Sounds great, doesn't it.
The problem is that it is now cheaper to manufacture goods in America than in some developing countries.
One employer found that if you include all costs, it is cheaper to manufacture goods in Houston, Texas than in China.
This new development is very obviously tied to the beyond extreme inequality we've been talking about (here, here, and here) and employer extortion. Some employers without unions have forced down wages and cut or eliminated benefits. This is unacceptable and workers need to organize and assert their power.
Too many American workers live below the standard of living in developing countries. This fact is an indictment of our economy, our politics, and our judicial system - in truth all the elements of power in America.
These things will only get worse if there is not a movement to reduce inequality, to give workers the freedom to form unions, to catch worker pay up to the productivity we create and the wealth we generate.
Meanwhile, the Koch boys are funding and supporting the new anti-union legislation. President Obama is fighting back. Obama is in Michigan raising cane about the legislation. Obama said right-to-work-for-less is not about economics, but about politics.
It is time the whole Democratic Party realize that the labor movement is the party's foundation and that the Republican assault on organized labor is about weakening and/or destroying the Democratic Party, the middle class, and reducing us workers to little more than serfs.
I guess the Radical Right figures they haven't pissed off Americans enough.
I'm happy that I will be on Charles Showalter's national radio show today at 1:30pm EST and tonight at 7 pm EST I will be on David Calef's national radio show.
Many of you have heard that I'm trying to be more of a service for our labor movement. I'm blogging every day as you know, selling my books, doing training and consulting and continuing to speak to the hopes and aspirations of working families.
Next month I'm doing a book tour in Britain. In February, I'm doing a week long training for unions in Canada.
I'm staying busy, but still have plenty of time for consulting, training, speaking, and writing.
This gives me the freedom to engage where I think I can do the most good. I have time and I'm available.
Please contact me through the contact page on my website by CLICKING HERE. I look forward to hearing from you. By the way, you can also get my two books by contacting me!
We're announcing our humble version of the big Holiday sale. You can get both books right now for $10 plus shipping and handling. CLICK HERE and contact me through my website to order.
Last night on Lawrence O'Donnell, former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich said that there still isn't enough consumer demand in the economy.
Just another reason that our book Getting America Back to Work is still a very important book about how to get more money in our pockets and increase consumer demand to rev the economy. You can get that book and Playing Bigger Than You Are: A Life in Organizing together for $10.
