Hey guys!  I don't diary much, in fact, hardly at all.  But this cause is near and dear to my heart, so I wanted to bring it to you all's attention.  This will be a short diary.

My dad created a petition to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court on the page.  Link here:
Follow below for more details.

Here is a description of the Petition:

The United States Supreme Court consists of nine justices. Five of the justices are white males, two are white females, one is a Hispanic female and one is a black male. What is conspicuously missing is an African American female. This absence should be corrected immediately because an African American female perspective on the court will create true diversity. What's more, no person in America exemplifies the American spirit of tenacity and excellence like African American women. Consider, for example, the accomplishments of Condoleezza Rice, Susan Rice, Oprah Winfrey and of course, First Lady Michelle Obama to name a few. The time has come for an African American woman to seat on the Highest Court of the land.
As an African American young woman, I think it's imperative that we push President Obama to have his next nominee for the Supreme Court be an AA woman.  It's high time that our perspectives, skills, and qualifications help shape federal law.  I am an aspiring Law Student and I think it would be great for people like me and younger to see an entire spectrum of Supreme Court Justices.  Until fairly recently, the Supreme Court consisted of white men. Two African-American men have been among the 112 justices to sit on the Court since 1789, and of course, no African American woman.  President Obama could help shape history and change that by nominating a qualified Black woman!

As an article from The Root put so succintly:

President Barack Obama needed only to look across his dinner table each evening or in the bed next to him each night to see a well-educated and well-qualified black female attorney who could have made a great U.S. Supreme Court nominee.
Come on Mr. President, let's not pass over the sistas anymore!  Your ascension to the presidency is already historic, let's cement it even more into the history books by nominating the FIRST black woman to the Supreme Court.

If you agree with this petition, please sign and share away!  We need 25,000 signatures by January 10, 2013.

I have two finals today, so I won't be around most of the day to comment and reply, but I just wanted to get this out there.  Thanks!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
