14 18 of them children, have been shot to death at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. Other people were wounded and have been sent to hospitals. There is also coverage

The gunman, who is among the dead, is said to be about 20 years old. Original reports said there were two gunmen, but that remains to be seen, according to reports. A SWAT team is reported to have entered the shooter's father's home in New Jersey. The gunman's name has not been released.
Police are said to be preparing to make a statement.
