First off, let me apologize for this type of diary, I know yesterday's tragedy has our thoughts and prayers rightly elsewhere. I considered posting in an open thread, but figured if there's any response to this, I'd rather it be in a diary that I can reference easily in the future, rather than to a comment I'd have to search for...
I just started a Twitter account the other day. The first thing I did was follow Justin Bieber a whole bunch of people from here, as well as others across the political spectrum—from Markos and Meteor Blades to Karl Rove and Sarah Palin, though for completely different reasons, of course. I'm by no means tech-averse, and with a bit of reading I'm confident of my ability to get quickly up-to-speed.
That said, if you'd like to share your suggestions/tips for helping me get going sooner rather than later, I'd be grateful. Specifically:
- What are your preferred applications? I'm using an Android-based device for most of my online interaction, though if you are using some other operating system and have something that works for you, I'd be interested, as there may be an Android version of the same app that I could look around for.
- Not 24 hours have passed since I registered, and even though I haven't tweeted anything yet, and this is the first mention I've made here about it (or anywhere else for that matter), other than the button on my profile page that I have enabled, I have managed to attract three, count 'em, three followers, none of whom I recognize.
I have no idea why they like me so much, so quickly. One is politically-related, so that one is more plausible. The other two look like beautiful women with whom, never in a million years, would I be granted a date. While I'm not complaining, I'm suspicious of potential spambots. Is this a normal occurrence for new Twitter registrants?
- I'm assuming retweeting something only redistributes the tweet amongst any followers I may have, but I'm wondering if the act of retweeting, even if only my three devoted and potentially-robotic followers receive it, is helpful in other ways, in the aggregate?
I know that in the single day I've been playing around with it, I can already see it's potential. I don't know why I resisted for so long.
Also, if any of you on Twitter have suggestions of others DK/politics-related for me to follow, including yourselves, please comment.
Thanks for your time.
