Texas GOP Congressman Louie Gohmert
Wow:
"Every mass killing of more than three people in recent history has been in a place where guns were prohibited," he said on "Fox News Sunday." "They choose this place, they know no one will be armed."
He argued that if Sandy Hook Principal Dawn Hochsprung, who was killed trying to protect her students Friday, had had a gun in her office, the situation could have turned out differently.
"I wish to God she had had an M4 in her office locked up and so when she heard gunshots … she takes his head off before he can hurt those kids," he said.
Every time something like this happens, the freaks and nuts like Gohmert insist that what is needed here is more powerful weapons in more places at all times. Whenever there is a psychopathic mass killing, or whenever there is a black face on the evening news telling of crime, or whenever wherever anything at all happens, the reaction from people like Gohmert is "more guns everywhere." Never occurs to him that this kind of paranoia is exactly why these psychopaths end up getting guns in the first place.
Just imagine. This guy is actually saying that an elementary school principal should keep an M4 around on campus just in case she needs to take a head off. Why not the P.E. coach for that matter? Why not kindergarten teachers? Hell, why not make it requirement for a teaching license that folks have a masters degree and a concealed carry permit?
Then, just as soon as some insane substitute teacher goes berserk and kills the whole classroom, people like Gohmert will come out for concealed carry permits for students. Because seriously, had there been a 7th grader in there with a Smith and Wesson, she could have taken Mr. Crabtree's head off!
This is beyond ridiculous for a civilized society.
The conversation we need to have is beyond gun control. We need to start talking about being a less armed society generally. Who ought to have access to lethal weaponry and who shouldn't (which i suspect is most of us). And if that means the Constitution ought to be changed (or at least reinterpreted), then so be it.
