Guns are made for 1 reason only, to kill. Animals, people, any living creature. There's no other purpose to them. Therefore, the argument of my fellow trigger-happy citizens about 'people, not guns, killing people' sounds like a pathetic attempt to defend the 2nd amendment. To support their notion, they like to cite cars, baseball bats, knives and other objects that are occasionally misused to kill, and pose a question about their regulation and/or ban. I'm afraid, 1 fact they quietly ignore is that majority of those objects are primarily manufactured with a completely different purpose in mind.

Cars are made to transport, baseball bats to hit a baseball, knives to cut things etc. Yet, they'd like us to believe that in the hands of dangerous individuals, they can turn to lethal weapons. Well, anything can b turned to a weapon. Unless it is a weapon already. And the last time i checked, guns were weapons, indeed. No matter whose hands they're in. Their primary purpose can't b detached from them. Killing is their business & the business, sadly, seems pretty good.
The 2nd amendment originally limited the right to keep & bear arms to a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State. In 2008 & 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that the amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. While the defense of 1's home makes sense, bearing arms outside of it not really. Bringing a gun to public and/or private places significantly increases the chances of something awry to happen. Whether, it b a gun's malfunction or a human fault. And I don't think it would b too difficult to find binders full of cases that turned fatal only because a party pulled out a gun for the circumstantial leverage or it just went off by itself. That's also why the misguided dogma pointing fingers @ people in order to justify the right to own a killing machine sounds like a snark. It sounds as if those who believe it weren't protecting their right to defend their homes, it sounds as if they were protecting their right to kill. Guns kill people. And in the hands of the 'gun hos', they just kill more of them...

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
