Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

It's crazy week at work.  Everyone is getting ready for their vacations, except me.

I don't take vacation time this time of year.

I prefer to save my vacation for important stuff, like staying home in ice storms and snow deeper than 6" (that's the most my car can handle), and volunteering at the OU Medieval Fair and OctopodiCon, and the training trips for hearing dogs, and giving presentations to emergency responders about service dogs, and occasionally (far too often, really) to attend funerals.

How do you use your vacation time?

(Itzl helping me sort mail at work - since all my co-workers are afraid we'll get anthrax or explosives in the mail...and I'm not because Itzl would sniff it out.  He sniffs the mail and alerts on the ones that smell funny - usually it's perfume, but once it was poison ivy sap that ha gotten on a corner.  I'm pretty sure he'd tell me if there was anthrax or explosives in the mail.)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

  •  So my pootie LuvLee has now had her first (6+ / 0-)

week of insulin injections, given by me, as a newly-diagnosed diabetic. I just can't believe how well she is doing! She looks so much brighter and alert, her fur is getting softer, and best of all she's no longer soaking half the litterbox with pee.

The cute thing is, she's apparently getting to associate her shots with feeling better, and sometimes she will go and sit by the kitchen chair I use when it's getting close to injection time. Tonight, it close to the injection time when I finished my late supper so I sat there reading for a while, and she came over and meowed at me, like Mom! Don't you know it's time for my shot!

Tomorrow we have an appointment at the vet so she can get her first thorough blood-sugar check. I will take her in the morning and leave her for most of the day, I guess, so they can get 4 blood readings and get a trend through the day. I'm eager to see what the readings will tell them. LuvLee, I fear, may not agree with this plan, lol.

And other than that - it's been a very emotional weekend as I've been focused on the news from CT and many of the discussions here. I'm like that, although I feel terribly guilty because it draws me away from the work I should be doing. But my mind finds it hard to concentrate on anything else. I am grateful I got to watch the memorial service and the President's speech. I think and hope that this has been a tipping point, and that a change is coming, for the better.

of why YOU are so irreplaceable??

we USED to use vacation days for SCA events, since many of them take a day's travel either way, plus the weekend, plus, if possible, a last-minute projects and packing day, and an unpack-wash-sleep-in day...

feeding the delicate eaters kinda puts a damper on travel and staying places you can't fix your own food is an issue; and we've found that some motel/hotels' linen services use formaldehyde for killing bedbugs & etc. which makes finding a safe place to sleep a challenge (DH is VERY allergic to formaldehyde, we can't take the local paper because there's so much in the newsprint)... so we don't do much in the way of "vacating"!

did go to see BRAVE, finally, today. pretty good, but another part I REALLY liked, was the cartoon. a real, old-fashioned, before-the-movie-starts CARTOON! Love Pixar!!! this one, La Luna, was marvelous, too.

It's going to be 43 and cloudy again today.

Hey FloridaSNMom, winter storm" Draco" is coming across the west and midwest.

Our vacation is going to Florida in winter.  We don't really call it a vacation, we're just living somewhere else for a while.  Gonna pick up our r.v. today, and start packing it up.

    Have a peaceful day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

Vacations? What are those? Even when I was working it wasn't at a job where I got vacation. Now I get 'hospital vacations" i.e. days when I'm admitted to the hospital and thus not home. Not really vacations.

It's warm again today, and foggy. Supposed to stay relatively warm until Friday, though a few days ago it said it would drop tomorrow.

vacation day, just as every day is also a work day!  Today is a busy day, with many errands.  The weather is warm and overcast, I'm so glad it's not raining when I have all these little projects to wrap up!

The unfortunate part of teaching was that vacation days were set by the district, the good part was there were a lot of "off" days.

We were allowed three personal days to use if something came up, they flipped to sick days at the end of the year.  Sick days accumulated and when I retired, turned into cash that could be used to stay in the insurance group.  I have about two more years of that money left, but 5 and 1/2 years until medicare.  Widow's SS benefits start this  summer and will soften the bite when I run out of sick time money, but I don't think it will cover everything until I turn 65. It's going to be close.

Please, govt. Don't mess with my health insurance planning!  Leave medicare and SS alone!!

If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. &
