Please sign (and have your friends sign)  a White House Petition (the URL is below)  to cause changes in gun control by allowing citizen  possession of guns in Congressional and Supreme Count facilities, which under present law has severe penalties . The petition is in the  spirit of Jonathan Swift's "A MODEST PROPOSAL" in which Swift  suggests that the Irish eat their own children .

We petition to change the law related to  US Code 18 USC ยง 930 - POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AND DANGEROUS WEAPONS IN FEDERAL FACILITIES which states " ..whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both." and similarly for a federal court " ...not more than 2 years, or both...". We petition that the background law and USC be changed so that guns be knowingly possessed or presented in Congressional  and Supreme Court facilities.   At the same time the Congress and Supreme Court shall take no action  which will give more protection from gun violence on Congressional and Supreme Count properties  than is available, and demonstrated,  to every US citizen in their home, workplace , school, theater,  shopping mall, and other places.

Why the Petition: Since Congress and the Supreme court by their actions seem to feel that existing laws on gun control are acceptable to the average citizen, Congress needs to change the law and implementing USC to allow guns to be carried on Congressional Facilities and similarly Supreme Court Facilities. To not do so would mean they are hypocrites.  By signing the petition we will assist Congress and the Supreme Count from being hypocrites, and thus allow them the enlightenment  associated with the existing gun laws.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I'm betting we would have (0+ / 0-)

quick changes in gun laws if something like this truly happened. I don't have a doubt that most in Congress think they're entitled to more protection than every other US citizen and would never allow something like this to ever become anything but a joke-laden discussion amongst a few of them on poker night.
