Not only mass quantities of dynamite but a heaping dose of drugs, helicopters, avalanches and anything else I can think of to further convince you that Americans just love things that blow up, make lots of noise and are dangerous. First a photo to suck you in. I'll give photo credits by first name where appropriate cause I doubt anyone I used to know wants anything to do with this post.
There you have it! Fifty pounds all going off nice and pretty with the flash caught in the reflection too. Note the smoke from the previous shot. Adds to the hellish fire and brimstone affect eh? All the 5lb puds going off at once? That p-cord really does zip right along at a couple thousand feet a second. Photo by Scott L my room mate and old bud.
More below that mess of tangled P-cord
A little worse quality on the rest of these, I was using a very small negative SLR called the Pentax 110 my first camera and I was just learning.
Notice the blue pud wrapped in P-cord in the middle of the photo just below the cabes they are long lining us? Look behind upslope. You think maybe but maybe that slope could avalanche? Naw, never. What could shake the slope more than fifty pounds going boom?
The theory is that because we are up on a little hill in the middle of the slope, anything that breaks loose will probably flow to either side of us. The shooters can shoot right up to us then we can continue laying dynamite on up the hill. Brilliant eh? Springtime In Idaho!
Ooops! What's that? Looks like Mike-ie Mike is bowling one up in the snowstorm. And where exactly is he hiding out from the wind and snow? Why in the lee of an avalanche fracture of course. Hill looks somehow familiar.
Well looks like this is my flight, I'm outa here, up on the collective, forward on the cyclic.
