This diary will be short and to the point. Rebecca Peters, the former head of the International Action Network on Small Arms, appeared on UP with Chris Hayes this morning, and spoke on the path Australia took to effectively reduce gun violence and the similarities to the challenges we face in doing the same here.
I'm embedding the video below the jump, it's just over 6 1/2 minutes long and contains a lot of important goals and factors to consider. I'm not including a transcript, because I just can't type that fast.
Reading up on her a bit, it is clear that Ms. Peters is a lightning rod for gun owners who fear forced disarmament and U.N. invasion. Not speaking to the validity of such fears, but to be fair to critics, Australia instituted a very strict ban that wouldn't seem advisable here. But she discusses a wide range of other great ideas that could make major inroads in our gun problems while still protecting Second Amendment rights.
