What a concept.  I'm assuming the insurance is for the shooter, not the victims.

We might also assume, those buying this insurance, will feel a tad safer shooting someone.

NRA Offers ‘Stand Your Ground’ Insurance To Cover Legal Costs Of Shooting People In Self-Defense

In a rare “scoop” for an editorial cartoonist today, Matt Bors skewered a little-known National Rifle Association (NRA) program that offers insurance to cover policy holders’ costs should they become embroiled in a legal battle after shooting someone in self-defense.

What’s Covered:

• Provides coverage up to the limit selected for criminal and civil defense costs.

• Cost of civil suit defense is provided in addition to the limit of liability for bodily injury and property damage.

• Criminal Defense Reimbursement is provided for alleged criminal actions involving self-defense when you are acquitted of such criminal charges or the charges are dropped.

It looks like this "Stand Your Ground" insurance is actually offered by a British Company, Lockton Companies LLP. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. A Lloyd’s Broker.

Lockton states, on their website:

The soft market is not typically a great time for the wholesale market, but the Lockton team has been holding its own. They are doing some great work for clients in that market. Our affinity business based in London has been especially strong with good growth in the past couple of years.
Kansas, MO is listed on its website for Lockton Affinity

Lockton Affinity acts more like a "business partner" helping, in their own words others develop custom insurance policies administered by Lockton.  So, did the NRA invite Lockton to set up the Self-Defense Insurance being offered by NRA?
Every group, association, franchise, or professional organization deserves the expert skills of a specialist:

one who can design, administer and implement a custom insurance solution.

Lockton Affinity is that specialist with the experience, knowledge and understanding to assist you in establishing a new program or revitalizing an existing program. We’ll negotiate the best rates for your members, help you utilize the program as a tool for membership recruitment, and most importantly surround the program with a plan that emphasizes continuous and dedicated service.

Our role is one of business partner and trusted advisor, responsible for providing an unmatched level of service in the administration of our program. (emphasis mine)

I'm assuming the NRA invited Lockton to set up the Self-Defense Insurance program:

The NRA offers the Self-Defense insurance on its own website here.

You can apply for the insurance at this NRA webpage.

NRA also offers Retired Law Enforcement Officer Self-Defense Insurance

The FREE MARKET is working.  There are now three (3) groups offering to cover your self-defense shooting expenses:

There’s now three self-defense insurance plans out there for CCW carriers (and others) who want to win the court battle that comes after the gun battle. We spend hours on the range and thousands of dollars on guns, ammo, gear and training to prepare to defend our lives, but don’t spend a nickel on preparing to defend ourselves in court. Once my current bout of funemployment is over, I will be taking advantage of one of these offers, and it’s something I’d recommend for every civilian who carries a firearm.
In addition to the NRA's Self-Defense Insurance, these two groups are, too:

If I were SANTA, I'd avoid the "Stand Your Ground States" this year.

States That Have Stand Your Ground Laws

Many states have enacted “stand your ground” laws that remove the duty to retreat before using force in self-defense.  The following is a list of states with stand your ground laws on the books.  This list is limited to those states whose legislatures have gone through the process of enacting laws that specifically affirm an individual’s right to stand their ground when defending themselves against a threat.  Other states may have adopted a stand your ground doctrine through judicial interpretation of their self-defense laws, but those states are not included in this list.

Guns, how many ways can the NRA, gun/bullet makers, retailers, and other companies profit?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
