Hello, Jewish Kossacks (how's that for an oxymoron!) and our fellow travelers and assorted significant others. It's Christmas Eve! Time once again for us to gaze out our windows at our neighbors' Christmas decorations (some tasteful, some less so) and reflect on being Jewish at a time when the country is inundated with things Yuletide.
Tonight, I will be posting my 6th Annual Upper West Jewish Christmas Diary (the "UWJCD")
I know how exhausted we all are from fighting the War on Christmas nonstop since at least Thanksgiving. But this year, I'm asking for help from you -- the Jewish Kossacks and friends -- for contributions to this year's edition.
For inspiration, here's a link to last year's UWJWD.
So??
What do you suggest I include to commemorate, as Jon Stewart would say, "The Year in Jew."
Some ideas:
Newly disclosed Jews (the "Jew or not a Jew" game") e.g, from prior years, Pink, Drake, Scarlett J.
Jews and the 2012 election.
New (or old that I haven't heard) Jewish Jokes
Awards:
The 2011 edition instituted an awards section, the "UCJWD'ees" or, if you prefer, the "Zabars."
Who are your nominees this year?
What categories should be added, if any?
Last year's winners were:
Schmendrik of the Year (in a landslide): Eric Cantor (distant second was Anthony Weiner)
Mensch of the Year: A tie between Paul Krugman and Bernie Sanders
Gevurah, omets (Bravery) Award: Gabrielle Giffords
Narishkayt (foolishness) award: Among others, the Rick Perry ad: "There's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school."
Nu? What are you waiting for? The comments are open for suggestions.
Try it. It couldn't hurt.
