OFF THE CLIFF REPUBLICAN RIBBON

This is just not an option.  The greedy son of a bitches want to  hit the poorest among us !   This is not an option because some parents actually postponed Christmas presents or shopping or even paying rent depending on the child tax credit.
I thought the Republicans loved Reagan?  That tax credit was his baby.  By the way,
the president is already getting blamed by uneducated, wingers for this off the cliff tax return.  THEY ARE BLAMING OBAMA, which is precisely what Norquest wanted.

Who do the billionaires and millionaires think are doing all the living, shopping, and contributing?  The ones who receive unemployment and depend on the earned income tax credit.  I am more than pissed and every parent and grandparent here should be.

Check this out...Earned income tax .bye bye ..thanks to Repugs

I don't know how these people will pay 8 dollars for a gallon of milk.

This is getting sick and we should all send BLACK ribbons to these legislators in response to their contributiion of killing the economy.  No, I am not selling black ribbons but we should send them with our own message on them !

Who would have guessed in a million years that Norquest has replaced Saint Ronnie?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

me after the end of 2013. The unemployment will hit those eligible to collect it right away.

I'm not sure what other programs might see immediate cuts. I'd hope not food stamps. The CHIPs program has helped us, health care for kids is a big deal.

There might be other things, targeted at specific groups of people, that if gone, could hurt those groups hard. Maybe weatherization, or HEAT.

How big is your personal carbon footprint?

As I understand it, as things currently stand, the EITC and Child Tax Credit are NOT slated to disappear. (That may be a GOP pipe dream, even though those were Reagan inventions, but it isn't going to pass the Senate.) They are just scheduled to return to pre-2009 rules. Yes, that will mean less money for some families, especially those with more than two children. However, the changes were put in place as part of the 2009 Stimulus package, to help juice the economy, and were never intended to become permanent.

I object in principle to advocating for short-term stimulus measures in a crisis and then arguing that it has to become permanent. That's GOP tactics, not ours.

As a former tax preparer, I can also say that all of the refundable credits, including these, seem to be fraud-magnets -- people claiming kids who never lived with them or were not really related to them, tax preparers taking kids info from a prior year return and tacking it onto someone else's return, etc. etc. We had one where it looked like a hospital employee had claimed a child who had died during the year.

So while I am sympathetic, and agree wholeheartedly on not cutting food stamps, unemployment and other safety net programs (and passing a farm bill so milk isn't $8 a gallon), I am not outraged at letting the EITC and CTC go back to 2008 levels.

abuse the system, but I do know there are many who do rely on that child tax credit for the things they cannot afford during the year and generally those with two children.   I just think the auditors should be as interested in the off shore hiding as they are the poor.

    •  Please explain how they could pay (0+ / 0-)

1000 more if they have three children or not get a refund at all.  that was what was reported.

For example, a low-income couple with three kids will lose as much as $1,500 from expiring provisions of the Child Tax Credit. If their income is low enough, they could also see a smaller refund from the Earned Income Tax Credit, and benefits from the Child and Dependent Care Credit could be reduced as well.
