That's right - 100,000,000 video views! That's almost one for every three people in the United States.
President Obama's campaign and administration has always been at the forefront of communication technology and this recent milestone attests to that fact. His administration sometimes gets criticized for poor communication, but clearly someone is looking at the White House videos (and obviously it's not just a handful of Kossacks!)
From the White House blog:
Earlier this month, we reached a milestone with the news that our videos have been viewed more than 100,000,000 (that's one hundred million!) times since we launched the official White House YouTube channel on Inauguration weekend in 2009. Two of our most watched videos of all time were posted in the first week of President Obama’s term.
Since then, viewers have had a chance to follow the President, the First Family and the Obama Administration on YouTube via almost daily video updates, including the President’s weekly address, on demand versions of all of his speeches and remarks at public events, video of events that take place at the White House like our Champions of Change celebrations, plus behind the scenes looks at everything from preparing for the holiday season and planting the Kitchen Garden each year, to West Wing Week, an up-close review of the President’s schedule.
Two of the most watched videos, posted in President Obama's first week in office were of his inauguration, and his first weekly address on tone in 2012:
January 20, 2009: President Obama's Inaugural Address calls for a "new era of responsibility." Chief Justice Roberts' flub in reading the oath has been recorded for posterity.
January 24, 2009: In his first weekly address after being sworn in as 44th President of the United States, President Obama discusses the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
Other popular videos were of President Obama's statement after the death of Osama bin Laden, his statement after the recent mass shooting in a Newtown, CT elementary school, his speech in Cairo, Egypt (otherwise known as the Apology Tour where it can be seen and heard that no apology was ever issued), and the holiday greeting of First Dog Bo inspecting the White House holiday directions (which was featured in a DKos diary)
November 29, 2012: Bo inspects the White House holiday decorations. The annual White House holiday decorations are a beloved American tradition, and this year folks got an early look at how the theme Joy For All was interpreted throughout the house, with the Obama family's dog leading the tour.
President Obama's State of the Union address from January 25, 2012 was uploaded and enhanced with charts and graphs to help explain the points he made.
The "It Gets Better" video from October was
recorded to give hope and support to young people who are being bullied or harassed because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
Another popular one was from the White House Correspondents' Dinner where President Obama (in his well tailored tux) and Jay Leno traded jokes. President Obama is a natural comedian and there is so much about him that is an improvement over the previous President that is now just taken for granted.
And let's not forget video of President Obama shooting a marshmallow from the 'extreme marshmallow cannon' at the Science Fair.
All the videos can be viewed at the WH blog, or you can subscribe to the WH Youtube channel when viewing any of the videos.
