During the Bushco era my mom became very politically savvy. She was very angry over sending our troops to a war that was perpetrated by a lie of WMD's and so much more.
My 81 year old mom wants to be able to fight the good fight with accurate information and the knowledge of what is really occurring in the country she loves. She tapes the news so she can compare what is being said by MSNBC, Fox, etc. She always listens to our President's speeches, and press conferences, then immediately turns to Fox so she can hear for herself what twists and turns they attempt on what he actually is saying and doing.
She can argue with the best of them but she needed to let her feelings come out in another way, so she wrote the heartfelt poem below the squiggle.
I shared this poem with another Dkos member and was encouraged to post it in a diary. Being my mom's sounding board has been interesting and sometimes hysterical. She can really let it rip when Fox (Fux News) starts spinning things in the air.
Enjoy.
Maybe this will explain to you what is in my heart.
I am so concerned for our Country and this is the only way I know how to express it.
Phyllis
My heart is heavy
My thoughts are troubled.
The country I love and adore
Is no longer that country anymore.
One Nation Under God is split in two.
It is now the nation of Red and Blue.
The suffering of so many Americans is very real and true
and is not being felt by only a few.
There are those who have forgotten the oath they have taken,
and now it is the 99 percent they have forsaken.
Please realize how far this despair has spread.
I shudder to think what for America might be ahead.
In a few months we will be able to decide,
and I hope and pray ALL Americans can vote with pride.
I pray that both Party's will work as a team
so that all Americans can achieve the "American Dream".
As an added concern a religious issue has come to the fore.
A woman's right to choices for her health concerns,
and I am afraid this is just the beginning and there will be so much more.
The troop's are coming home to a country that is worn and torn.
Is this what they fought for? They must feel so forlorn.
They gave up their lives and the pursuit of happiness to go to war.
To come home to no jobs, they had no idea what was in store.
What is wrong with those that they cannot see?
If only they would pass the jobs bills so this would not be.
Please get jobs back home to the USA and put our people back to work.
Is this not the American way?
I am an 81 year old woman who is saddened and filled with fear that the country I love is being torn apart.
To think of what is ahead for my children, grand children and great grand children just breaks my heart.
So Please Dear Lord stop this political war at home before it's to late.
So again we the people can pledge to America the United States.
