Having failed at every turn to overturn the will of the voters who reelected President Obama, the wingnuts are down to their last option: petitioning Chief Justice Roberts to refuse to administer the oath. But there's one little problem.
Right Wing Watch has linked to a commentary on birther site World Net Daily petitioning Chief Justice Roberts to refuse to administer the oath of office to the President. Presumably this would block President Obama from assuming office for a second term. Apparently the WND commentator hasn't read the Constitution; specifically Article II, Section 1, clause 8.
Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
I don't see anything about the oath having to be administered by the Chief Justice. That's just a tradition. Any notary off the street could do the job. You might not even need the notary, since there would be plenty of witnesses. This fiasco is on par with the cockeyed scheme to get Romney states to withhold their Electoral College votes, supposedly to block a quorum and prevent the President's official reelection. These teabaggers profess to worship the Constitution so much you'd think they'd actually read it.
By the way, I don't see anything about "so help me God," either.
