According to The Washington Post, former Congressman Barney Frank has expressed an interest in filling John Kerry's Senate seat on an interim basis once Kerry is confirmed.
“I’ve told the governor that I would now like, frankly, to do that,” Frank said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
The recently retired congressman said legislators’ “fiscal cliff” deal makes the next few months a crucial economic period in which he wants to be involved.

The article further indicates that the seat would be filled by special election and that Frank is not interested in running in a special election.
I think that Barney Frank would be an excellent choice to fill this seat on an interim basis, and would much appreciate his contribution to the debt limit/spending cut debate.
Governor Duvall Patrick has indicated that Frank is on the list, but he not yet made up his mind who he would like to appoint.
