At least we learned it was 40 years ago this week. On Jan 6th, 1973 the following video hit the airwaves on ABC.
For some bizarre reason the topic of School House Rock crossed my path multiple times yesterday. The last time was driving home when it was mentioned on the radio that the anniversary was this weekend.
School House Rock taught little nuggets but in a way that nobody could forget. (Yeah, sometimes incorrectly -- Sorry, but the Pilgrims weren't even the first English settlers in America)
But whenever some conservative wanker gets up in your face saying "Government regulations harm business!" remind them of School House Rock. A government regulation on the broadcasters to inject a little education in between the brain candy and Sugar Frosted Choco Bombs. Forty years later Disney (who bought ABC in the 90's) is still raking in dough from School House Rock. The shows it ran between? Does anyone even remember Goober and the Ghost Chasers?
Oh well, just a little trip down nostalgia lane. Here are my favorites from the various series.
Ready Or Not, Here I Come. A parody of "Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie" Multiplication by 5.
Unpack Your Adjectives.
A Victim of Gravity.
Preamble.
I wonder how many kids passed their history tests on the Preamble humming that song to themselves? Now THAT was a public service. ;D
