Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

I have always been of the "right-sized" philosophy. Weight is important only when it actually and provably causes health issues.

Trying to shape your body for cosmetic reasons is the absolute worst reason ever to damage your body through extreme weight loss diets and excessive exercise.

Trying to manage your weight for proven health benefits - not mythical ones, not doctor imposed "cosmetic" ones, and certainly not as a scare tactic - is a Good Thing.

Some people are healthier and happier - and prettier - when they weigh above the arbitrarily imposed "average" weight.  And others are healthier and happier when they weigh less than that arbitrary "average" weight.

So, find the weight you feel best at, and be happy with it.

    Spent some time yesterday with family from Australia. Good time.

    Just took the pups for a walk, and it's beautiful out. Several things planned for today. Hope I get to them all.

    warmer today, 69 currently supposed to go up to 80.
    So far as weight goes, I wish I could lose about 50lbs and go back to the weight I was before I started the prednisone, but I'm not sure how to accomplish that at this point. I don't eat ((or drink) a lot of junk food, I don't eat large portions, and I have to watch I don't cut nutrition. Maybe working with Sophie will keep me moving a bit more in short bursts and I'll be able to lose a little.

    We've been working on retrieving the inhaler a bit today. She's starting to get the point that she's supposed to bring it to me and not lay down and chew on it and claim it for her own. Single pieces of kibble are a great motivator. Of course she only has the attention span of a 4 month old puppy, but we're working on it.

      At 4 months, they are pretty dedicated.  At 8 months, they get all teen rebellious and sulky.

        with the rescue was working with her, because she's mostly house broken and she knows sit, though it's not reliable yet. Last night she slept curled up with Bit, because Bit was having nightmares. She's also finally found her voice, though she doesn't bark a lot. Mostly when she's playing or something/someone startles her. We've been socializing her with some of the neighbors, and with some of the neighbor's dogs as well. I haven't taken her out with me yet, maybe later today. Freya's going to hate it. I need to make her a working cape. I have a coat for her, but it's too hot out for it.

    Because I have a week like this, I can do some additional "buttoning up" for the cold weather that will be coming,   s.o.o.n!  There's a door in the basement that is leaking cold air, and I found a piece of insulation that will fit right over it.

    Now, .....to find that staple gun....!  Have a good day folks!

    the only coherent thought in my head is "FEED ME".  A comfortable weight for me is around 160.  If I get down to 140 ever again in my life, people will wonder if I'm sick - that's how skinny I am at that weight.  I am downright delicate compared to some of my relatives, but my bones are NOT small.

    People tend to forget that bone and muscle and internal organs have mass of their own - and that humans are designed to need some fat to be healthy.

    If I met the common assumptions about what someone my present weight should look like, I would be the shape and consistency of a slug and roughly the size of the Goodyear blimp.

    Strength and dignity are her clothing, she rejoices at the days to come; She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the law of kindness is on her tongue.

    too. I had a bone-density test about 10 years ago, ca. age 55, and the guy said I should be about 25 according to the condition of my bone-density!

    I've carried at least 30# over my "chart" weight since adolescence, and sometimes more like 60# extra. What I WANT is to get back down to 60-extra! 8-(  

    I'm not having mobility problems or anything*, but am pretty sure I have abdominal deposits negatively affecting my lung capacity... do not have the stamina I should, and did only a few years ago. in spite of some exercise. *(My mom did develop a bum knee and stupid doctor told her he wouldn't do anything about it until she lost some weight. Which she couldn't move around enough to do, because of the bum knee. She warned me and warned me about losing weight before damage was done, and I'm OK so far.)

    "real" work : a job where you wash your hands BEFORE you use the bathroom...
