Brief diary!
As a follow-up to my diary yesterday,
I am very pleased to report homophobe Louie Giglio has been removed/removed himself from the inauguration proceedings!

Dallas Voice

So sometimes our voices are heard. Let's just hope the next person is better vetted.
Here's a start: no one who is racist, homophobic, misogynistic, hostile to the elderly, Muslims, Hispanics, disabled or any other group.

This is good news!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Inauguration releases statement (5+ / 0-)
We were not aware of Pastor Giglio’s past comments at the time of his selection and they don’t reflect our desire to celebrate the strength and diversity of our country at this Inaugural. Pastor Giglio was asked to deliver the benediction in large part for his leadership in combating human trafficking around the world. As we now work to select someone to deliver the benediction, we will ensure their beliefs reflect this administration’s vision of inclusion and acceptance for all Americans.

fixing this, because otherwise the implications were that the "fierce expedience of political opportunism" had won out over real values and respect for the GLBT and a real commitment to equal rights.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

  •  Called out at length on The Last Word (0+ / 0-)

Lawrence O'Donnell was savage about Giglio being dumped for quoting the anti-gay language that is actually in the Bible (only in one place, really, but it's there) and the one New Testament verse that has been reinterpreted to refer to teh gay, in spite of the doctrines of unchanging inerrancy of the Bible text. Then there is the fact that the Bible nowhere condemns slavery (except, Lawrence failed to note, slavery of the Jews in Egypt), and the fact that Obama will be sworn in, with this compendium of ugly nastiness (mixed with transcendent insight here and there, Lawrence also failed to note) as the supposed guarantee of his good faith, in the hands of his wife Michelle, herself a descendant of slaves.

Lawrence also did not note that Obama's Kenyan ancestors merely had their entire country stolen from them by the British Empire, rather than being personally stolen from their countries. That is condemned in the Bible, in the Tenth Commandment on not coveting what is thy neighbor's, but as we all know that applied at the time only to your White neighbors.

    America—We built that!
