Kos currently has a diary up on Texas Congressman Steve Stockman. Kos notes, correctly, that Stockman upholds the ludicrous position that any form of gun control equates to a violation of the second amendment.
So, when I heard this, I quickly called Stockman's office and much to my surprise, a staffer answered and he and I sort of got into it. His tone was a bit snarky, but he challenged me in my position which is that an impeachment would be idiocy, that Obama has done nothing impeachable, and that most Americans favor tighter gun control. The staffer said to me, again with sarcasm in his voice, "oh, so you know what Obama is planning to do" (with the insinuation that this is to be some great mystery.
Finally, this staffer challenged me top email him; and so I did. Here is a copy of the email.
To staffer@mail.house.gov (I will refrain from giving his email here, but I would advise those who wish to contact this office to do as I did and to call first)
Dear --------,
Thank you for taking my call and for asking for some further clarification for Mr. Stockman. There is a part of me that actually hopes that he will move on his articles of impeachment, as it will go nowhere but it will further demonstrate the extremism and the rigid ideological position of the House GOP.
Anyway, as I asserted, Obama was elected by a majority of Americans who largely agree with his positions and trust him more than the GOP. In addition, a majority of Americans are now indicating that they want tighter gun control. Some evidence of this is here.

According to Gallup, 58% of Americans now want tighter gun control, which is what Obama and Biden are calling for; tighter gun control certainly does not violate the 2nd Amendment, regardless of what lobby groups like the NRA have to say.
As far as presidential executive orders, they have a very long history, and have been around since the founding of our Republic and have been issued by just about every president and have been upheld by the courts

Mr. Stockman should thus feel free to take it to the courts if he doesn't like the executive order.
But as far as impeachment, it will only make those who push for it look ridiculous, other than in the eyes of those living in right wing fantasyland. Good luck with it though!
Sincerely,
Tom Conroy

I am amazed at how truly ignorant the far right is!

And like the true coward that he is, dissenting opinions get deleted and critics get blocked from posting. It happened to me, overnight. http://www.facebook.com/...
