I hadn't seen much in terms of coverage on Idle No More, so I figured I might give it a go and provide some information regarding the grassroots movement.
If you watch any of the regular TV news shows (well, at least here in the US), you may have only heard a glancing description of Idle No More - or may have not heard about it at all.
The movement, started by four women: Nina Wilson, Sylvia McAdam, Jessica Gordon & Sheelah McLea and when Omnibus bill C-45 was brought up and it contains hundreds of legislative reforms, including changes to land management on reservations which critics say would enable Canada to control reserves. The bill also alters the Indian Act – long under fire from aboriginal activists and allies as an example of modern discrimination – and lowers environmental protection for waterways. Four women Since the initial demonstrations and events started, more native communities have come together to show their support by hunger strikes (Theresa Spence of Attawapiskat First Nations for example), round dances done by flash mobs (see http://www.youtube.com/...) for an example) and even road blocks. The movement is utilizing social media like twitter and facebook to promote such events, using #IdleNoMore as a hashtag to increase its visibility.
A fairly good explanation from CBC (in Canada):
The movement has inspired many to take part and to let their voices be heard.
