Today, Wal-Mart announced that they would start hiring veterans.
This is GREAT, isn't it? Wave that flag, win back folks...
Except it's a deeply cynical ploy to avoid complying with the Health Care Bill, And get cheers for doing it.
(Explanation on the flip.)
As you know, the new Health Care Law that goes into effect soon will charge employers a fine of $3000.00 dollars for every single person who they decide to stick the government with.
So far the response to this has been large companies throwing temper tantrums and yelling about their rights being trampled. (Papa Johns, Hobby Lobby, Olive Garden)
On the other hand, Wal-Mart has decided to do what they normally do. Stick the taxpayers for the bill and hope nobody notices. They've done it with Food Stamps, and numerous other benefits.
We have nearly 22 million Veterans in this country. The VA spends 2 billion a year in health care for those veterans.
According to the individual mandate, the VA counts. Every veteran that Wal-mart sticks on their payroll...
Is one more person Wal-Mart doesn't have to either pay the fine for, OR provide health care for.
Waving the flag just makes the shit stink worse.
