Ghouls and psychopaths call for gun-appreciation Day in wake of Newtown massacre. Care about the twenty 6-year olds killed, the 6-teachers killed, NOPE! Care about their guns YEP. Honor Gun Depreciation Day January 20, 2013. This blog is posted by me but written by Martha Rosenberg, Senior Editor of the
National Gun Victims Action Council.
If you lost your first grader on December 14, imagine hearing about the January 19th Gun Appreciation Day. Two days before Inauguration Day, which is also Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, gun lovers will descend upon gun shops, gun ranges and gun shows with Constitutions and American flags in hand to protest proposed new gun legislation. What?
Asked if such gun exultation doesn't deepen the wounds of grieving Sandy Hook parents and families, the chairman of Gun Appreciation Day Larry Ward said that's not the point. The point is President Obama, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg and California Sen. Dianne Feinstein did it first and turnabout is fair play. They have "all exploited the tragedy to advance their legislation to infringe upon the Second Amendment," he told ABC News.
Ward even has an answer for the event's blasphemy of King who was himself a victim of gun violence. "I think Martin Luther King Jr. would agree with me if he were alive today that if African-Americans had been given the right to keep and bear arms from Day 1 of the country's founding, perhaps slavery might not have been a chapter in our history," he said in a TV interview.
What is a sane response to the aggressive commemoration of aggression and disdain for murdered victims of Gun Appreciation Day? Activist artist Michael D’Antuono has declared January 20, the day after Gun Appreciation Day, Gun Depreciation Day. It is a day to email your representatives to demand more meaningful gun control laws and affirm that our obligation to protect children trumps the right to own assault weapons. You can find your local representative at here.
Michael D’Antuono will debut a painting called “Brought To You By The NRA” (above) at the opening of The Newtown Project: A Call To Arms on the eve of the Presidential Inauguration. The exhibition is at the Charles Krause Reporting Fine Art Gallery, near the White House. Mr. Krause is himself a gun victim and was nearly killed by a weapon like the ones used at the Newtown shooting.
