Wisconsin Democrats don’t have anyone to take on Republican Governor Scott Walker yet, but that hasn’t stopped them from thinking ahead to 2014, dusting off Howard Dean’s old playbook, and unveiling the 72-County Strategy!

The 72-County Strategy is the Wisconsin state-level version of the 50-State Strategy that former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean used when he ran the national Democratic Party.
Wisconsin Democrats have nine goals as part of their 72-County Strategy:
1) Building up a ward captain program, which allows grassroots activists in every single precinct across Wisconsin to serve as a point of contact for volunteers and voters during get-out-the-vote operations.
2) Organizing direct voter contact activities during the 2013 state budget debate in Wisconsin.
3) Creating regional media teams to speak to certain issues or against certain officials, organize letters-to-the-editor drives, and generate earned media actions in each region of Wisconsin.
4) Building relationships with college students at universities and two-year colleges across Wisconsin.
5) Recruiting high-caliber candidates for 2014 state executive, state assembly and state legislative races in Wisconsin.
6) Implementing an internship program in the southwestern, northwestern, and northeastern regions of Wisconsin.
7) Ensuring a regular Democratic presence in Wisconsin’s mainstream media.
8) Using social media, including Facebook and Twitter, to engage base Democratic supporters in Wisconsin.
9) Working with staff at Wisconsin's retirement homes to create vote plans for their residents.
As an Illinoisan who is a Friend of the Wisconsin Uprising, I like to thank Democratic Party of Wisconsin chairman Mike Tate for finally getting his head out of the sand and dusting off Howard Dean’s old playbook.
