Plans are coming together for the first ever Pittsburgh Area Kossacks pot luck meet up.  It will take place, starting at 4:30 PM at the home of group member Allen Kitchen and his wife Mary.

If you are a member of the group and have not yet signed on, or would like to attend even if you have not  yet joined the group, see below the orange tuna casserole topping squiggle for more details.

Those attending now have the location address and phone number for Saturday.  (If you lost it, send me a note.)  If you have not signed up and want to join us on Saturday, I will send that information to you once you contact me via

The following members have signed up to attend:

beanbagfrog (1)  Will bring whatever fits in
mentatmark (2) joining us from Erie and bringing a Main course
AllenKitchen (2) Hosts....providing all sorts of beverages etc.
MelinPgh (1) Hot onion dip
mjminPA (1) Muffins
mapamp (1) wings, cucumber salad or mini meatballs depending on what fits best
DELETED dweb8231 Unable to attend at last minute due to funeral
PowWowPollack (1) pizza
ADDED Don F (1) whatever is needed
NOTE:  The Kitchen's home is non-alcoholic.  They will be providing beverages, but if you want to bring anything of your own, please make note of this limitation.

So right now we have 10 people signed up to attend (good turnout for a first event) and if we hopefully get a few more, I will add them to the list in this diary with updates.  The group membership has just gone over 20 individuals.

Mjminpa would like to hook up with someone and ride up with them Saturday afternoon.  She lives in the Mt. Lebanon area.  She can drive to meet you if you are in or going through the area on the way to Butler.  She is not a fan of driving at night.  You can reach her via Kos Messaging, or if you want to use e-mail, let me know and I will put you in touch.  UPDATE This ride has been arranged.

beanbagfrog needs a ride as he is without a car.  He lives in West Oakland.  Again you can reach him by Kos message, or through me if you need email or phone contact.

UPDATE:  Still looking for someone to pick him up and return him.

How you can join the group and meet fellow area Kossacks

We always encourage interested Kossacks from Western PA, Northern WV, and eastern Ohio to join the group.  Over time we hope to vary meet up locations so all can attend at one point or another.  You'll have a chance to put Kos Names with real names and faces, and talk progressive politics to your hearts' delight...everything from efforts to make Corbett a one-term wonder to voter IDs, Electoral Vote trickery, and legislative reform.

Given the fairly short notice here, if you would like to attend next weekend's event, send me an e-mail at (moderator) and we'll get you squared away.  If you also want to join the Pgh Area Group, we can get that rolling at the same time.

Looking forward to seeing folks next Saturday and I encourage anyone willing to pitch in with a ride to come forward asap so we can help those members needing wheels make it to Butler.

UPDATE:  Unfortunately, as noted above in the list of attendees, I am going to be unable to attend Saturday due to the death of the son of a close friend and the need to attend memorial services that afternoon.  All those attending have been notified and the event is still on.  If you would like to come last minute, even if not a member of our group, contact Allen Kitchen, the host, at or by phone at 724-283-9597

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
