I've browsed youtube to come up with theme music for Paul Broun's campaign for US Senate, and have found something with the gravitas appropriate to Broun.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  As a resident of Georgia, I am particularly (0+ / 0-)

    not amused by Paul Broun.
However, the stupid shtick seems to be an effective election strategy, so we should perhaps explore why that is.

It's my guess that some people, especially those that have been called stupid or worse themselves, have some sympathy for a pol who's vilified.

Others, who are convinced that all pols are scoundrels, take pride in having their judgement verified and vote for such a person out of spite.

Others still, who would not be caught dead running for public office, but enjoy the spectacle, will vote for stupid just because they were asked.

In Broun's case, there's also the problem that Democrats put forward no alternative and ceded the seat to the stupid, thereby confirming for all and sundry that they're not too smart, either.

I've heard rumors that Jason Carter might be recruitable. He's in the state Senate, I believe.

    •  He's senator from district 42 ... (0+ / 0-)

Which I believe covers the East Lake community of Atlanta and some surrounding (too lazy to look it up this morning).

.I do consider Broun fair game for satire.  My family has been in Georgia since 1826, so I have a deep interest in the way politics has worked here

All my life I've been treated to a parade of clownish bufoons (lke Broun) and manipulative and cynical crooks (like Herman Talmadge). At this point I feel a need to call them for what they are.  Broun only lacks the red rubber nose, and he'll be an actual clown.

Maybe many of the people electing him will always vote for clowns.  But I have to believe that not pointing out his insane idiocy at every turn enables him to continue, and states to the average person in District 10 that his behavior and pronouncements are within the bounds of sane political discussion.

I have quite a few southern conservative friends, and I make an effort to maintain friendship with them.  They all know, however, that if they run some conspiracy theory by me I'm going to laugh and ridicule.
