This afternoon a car which had recently crossed the Turkish/Syrian border into Turkey exploded at the Cilvegözü border crossing in Hatay, Turkey. The car had a Syrian license plate.
Twelve are reported to have been killed and 28 wounded.
Of the twelve who were killed at least four were Turkish.
Of the 28 who were wounded nine are Turkish and 19 are Syrian. Thirteen of the wounded are reported to be in critical condition.
The car was parked in a parking lot in the border crossing's free zone. It is believed that there were explosives in the car but this has not been confirmed.
The Syrian side of the border crossing, Bab al-Hawa, is controlled by rebel forces.
The border crossing is minimally open and generally cars and trucks aren't allowed to enter Turkey from Syria or to enter Syria from Turkey.
The vehicles usually park in the free zone and passengers and cargo are transferred from one vehicle to another.
