What time is it? It's campaign time--always! No sooner has a race been won than another waits in the wings. Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in addition to all our other peculiarities (peanut soup, for example), we have off-year elections.
In November we'll be electing a governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state legislators, both in the House and Senate.
The eyes of the nation may well turn to Virginia in November. Will we elect a Democrat or a Republican as governor? Will it be an indicator for the 2014 elections? Possibly.
But for now let's discuss an exciting new candidate for state legislator. Follow me below the fold if you will.
JamieG in MD arranged a lunch for Virginia Kossacks today at a restaurant in the northern Virginia 'burbs. It was a pleasant surprise to find that one of the attendees was none other than Jennifer Boysko, candidate for the 86th House district of Virginia! The district includes Herndon, part of Sterling, Oak Hill, and part of Chantilly.
Jennifer has worked for Dranesville supervisor John Foust for the past five years. In addition to her extensive community experience, her political background includes serving as State Director of the Howard Dean campaign in 2003.
Jennifer wants to work for a progressive, responsive agenda in the Virginia House of Delegates. She brings experience as a citizen, worker, community organizer, and parent to her candidacy.
At lunch today we discussed several points of strategy for the coming campaign. We want to register voters, ask those voters how they want to be contacted closer to the election, make sure they have a way to obtain their voter IDs, and ensure they have transportation to the polls, should they need it.
We also talked about fundraising in the community, the responsibilities--and boundaries--of activists, and new ways to contact voters.
Our first task, however, is to obtain enough signatures to place Jennifer on the primary ballot. The primary will be held in June.
Jennifer's Facebook page is boyskofordelegate and her e-mail address is jennifer@jenniferboysko.com.
We're so excited about Jennifer's campaign! She may be blogging here herself in the near future. We're fired up and ready to go, people!
