Today in the Twin Cities 2,000 SEIU (Service Employees International Union) Local 26 security officers are striking due to a break down in contract talks with the large companies that employee them, like Target and Wells Fargo. This strike is the result of a threat from last week when the employers wanted to delay renewed talks to the middle of March. The security officers are looking for an increase in pay, similar to what the janitors of the Local 26 recently achieved.
Thankfully it looks like the pressure is already working, subcontractors with one specific security firm (American Security) have already achieved a deal during negotiations last night.
If you have the chance and live in the Metro, take some time to support the workers with food or even just words of support.
(I’m about to swing by Bruegers for them)
Thanks for reading, and keep fighting for equity!
