Greetings DKos Asheville and the the community at large.
This is the third post for a DKos Asheville open thread series that davehouck and I will try to be delivering every Saturday morning. We would like it to become a hub for talking about our 4/20 meet up to help make this great. So please come say hi, let's talk about food, lets talk about what you would like to see at the gathering, what you would like to see us all get out of this opportunity. And for those not coming, (I know, you want to but you live in Alaska) ideas are always welcome.
We would also like this series to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos. DKos Asheville could give us all a better sense of connection if nothing else. We hope, through this meet up, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
Look under the Orange Swirl of Local Goodness to follow the fun.
I had the honor and privilege of attending my first actual encounter with a real live Kossack this Monday. davehouck and I had a great, lengthy lunch together at one of our favorite places to eat, Earthfare at Westgate. The people are always so nice there and it's like an organic dream. The selection of great food is truly wonderful.
We spent most of our time just getting to know each each other, much like what I hope for at our Meet up in Asheville on 4/20. We talked about compassion and understanding of different opinions, even those on the far right. We talked about how the humanity of this community might get overlooked with a quick first time visit. We reveled in the fact that we have both been part of this community for so long and now finally, we are taking our next step to supporting each other beyond the keyboard.
We had a great time and we're both excited about making this something special. The New Day movement is pretty inspirational I think. We are also hoping to use the event to leverage wider opportunities for local progressive action. Not sure how yet, ideas are always welcome. David and I may be doing some local radio together on the progressive station to talk about the meetup and DK for a start. I'm also collecting schwag from local businesses for gift bags. Can't go home from something like this without souvenirs. :)
Have a great Saturday!
