"Country First 2013 Issues Survey"

I received an email from Sen. John McCain asking for donations, of course, but also asking that I take the time to fill out a survey.

I'm not really good on methodology, I think all I know I picked up here and ... well here, so I can not say with any surety that the questions as they are used in the survey suck - and yet I will.

The questions are below the fold. I strongly urge you to take the time to fill out the survey because Sen McCain says:

"I am not in Washington for myself - I am here to serve the great people of Arizona and our nation."
(emphasis mine)
As we, for the most part, tend to be a part of the nation that he serves we should represent ourselves in his survey so that he can get a more accurate, maybe closer to 'fair and balanced' survey results than he might if we did not participate.

As Richard Dawson said "Survey says" ... below the fold.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

'Do you approve of the job Congress AND the President did in 2012?'. Which instead of separating the two completely unconnected institutions, totally makes equal the horrendously sucky and universally disapproved job literally everyone feels about Congress, with the decent job people feel Obama did, so that after pretty much everyone votes NO, he can selectively use the answer to say 'see? People hate the job Obama is doing!!'.

    Effing despicable ahole.

Fifty shades of Republican to choose from, and everyone else must be either "Liberal" or "Other" at the bottom of the food chain. And if you style yourself as an Independent, it must be because you "Lean Republican."

1.Nations are not supposed to go anywhere. One hopes ours stays put.
2.The Congress stank; the President did good.
3.The executive is selected to execute the laws and manage our assets. "Leader" is what North Korea has.
4.National security means the same as nation safe. If the nation stays put, it will probably be safe. Faucets leak and that's bothersome, but fairly easy to fix.
5.I don't expect the nation to do anything. The economic crisis is the result of Congress rationing the money it sends to the states.
6.There is no deficit. When people deposit dollars with the Treasury for safe-keeping, that's neither a loan nor a deficit. It's a deposit. Why the Treasury pays depositors a premium is a puzzlement.
    7.Citizen
    8.All of the above.
9.Managing our public assets, including the currency.

and ask Sen. McCain about the results of his opinion poll.......and what he thinks of the results, as well as what steps he is going to take based on the results.

    •  Ok, how long before I ask? (1+ / 0-)

I am not sure how long the pollster will take responses and then how long it will take to compile and then 'interpret' the results.

      What would you suggest?

polls returned to Senator McCain's office.

My first impression is that they are scanned for any donations, finding none, they are then discarded. If a donation is enclosed, the name and address of the donor is carefully noted for future solicitations and then these donor names are shared to other Republicans in order to "share the wealth".

The questions asked are simply the bait for donations and serve no other purpose.

Like McCain would ever actually ever listen to responses from his constituents.

filling out these surveys. Somehow I got on McCain's mailing list despite being a life-long Democratic of the progressive persuasion.
Even though I always answered the questions the way a progressive Democratic might be expected to, I continued to receive questionnaires throughout the 2008 presidential campaign.
In the section asking for money I once wrote: "I will not donate as long as you continue to spend obscene amounts of hard-earned contributor money on clothes for Sarah Palin and her family. Never, never!"--and they still sent me questionnaires!
I think there must be a progressive plant in McCain's staff--otherwise how would we have gotten on the mailing list?
As I say, it was wonderful fun and very therapeutic. I really enjoyed thinking about how I might have skewed their results and maybe even caused some head-scratching about how to proceed with the message.
So I say, please, don't hold yourself back. Fill it out, send it in.
    Just don't include a check.

I found myself on the republican mailing list without having ever donated. I think I found out how it came to be: I started out long ago using The Source (Reader's Digest, became the major share holder with the founder breaking off to start CVC which evolved into AOL), and compuserve and which was eventually bought by AOL. Having dropped AOL at every turn it is my belief that the initial contracts with originating companies or the early contracts with AOL were not very tight on privacy and my id, which hasnt changed in ... forever, was sold = how I got onto the Republican mailing lists.

Maybe not true but it was the only thing I could think of that made any sense at all with the exception of mass spamming that got a hit ... that was me.

I also get a kick out of filling these things out too. I also like to keep up with what they tell their mailing list ... easier and less vomit inducing than visiting FReepLand.
