They are myths, aren't they?
I just got off the phone with a long-time client, someone I've worked for and known personally for 19 years. I never knew much about her politics, but my ears are still burning from her venomous anti-Obama and anti-Obamacare rant.
Evidently, our president is guilty of Golfing While Black, and not just golfing, but golfing for recreational purposes, as only four of his rounds of golf could be construed as business related based on who was involved. While not wasting the country's dwindling financial resources on these frivolous pursuits (unlike the critical-to-defense brushcutting of GWB), he has been turning us into a socialist nation that will soon be circling the drain.
He's also causing the collapse of the defense contractor industry since we have "no wars", so her employer is going through another round of layoffs. Yeah, peace sucks. There's no money to be made unless we're off on some international empire-building adventure involving big metal items bearing the "made in America" label.
She then launched into an unsolicited tirade about Obamacare, on the pretext that she and her elderly mother will be completely screwed by being unable to get ANY medical care. Case in point: Obamacare will not cover diagnostic mammograms after age 72. Her mother is in her 80's. What's she supposed to do??
I questioned some of her allegations, saying that I had heard nothing whatsoever to support those claims, she acknowledged that, while she hasn't read the entire legislation, she knows some "retired people" who have gone through it line by line. I had the good sense not to ask whether those retired people were moonlighting at Fox News. Evidently they've uncovered horrifying things like the following:
Under Obamacare, you will be means tested to determine whether you will receive care and what care you will receive. Just like in England. To carry out this assessment, the government will have the authority to access all your financial information including your bank accounts. From there, it's a slippery slope to the government being able to seize your assets whether or not you agree to treatment.
Not that I expect to win over this person with my brilliant rhetoric, but this sounds a little over-the-top. I'd appreciate any talking points that I could use to inject some reality into the analysis.
