is how absolutely unique each one is, which is why we need to stop attempting to impose a standardized education on each one.
Allow me to share two brief quotations from Vilayanur S. Ramachandran, from his famous 2007 TED talk, "3 clues to understanding your brain."
Here is this three-pound mass of jelly you can hold in the palm of your
hand, and it can contemplate the vastness of interstellar space. It can
contemplate the meaning of infinity and it can contemplate itself
contemplating on the meaning of infinity.
There are 100 billion neurons in the adult human brain, and each neuron
makes something like 1,000 to 10,000 contacts with other neurons in the
brain. Based on this, people have calculated that the number of permutations
and combinations of brain activity exceeds the number of elementary
particles in the universe.
For each of us, the connections we form are a product of our experience, which includes our connections with the outside world as well as the conscious thought we follow.
No two of us are alike.
We are not the same from moment to moment as we continue to form new neural connections.
We are each absolutely unique.
Should not our approach to education, should not how we teach, honor this?
