The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note the observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, fish, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located.

Quick stop at the wetland this drizzly afternoon. The alder grove overlooking the pond was swarming with birdsong: Red-winged Blackbirds, Siskins, Goldfinches. Too many to count even with binoculars. Over the past few days the female Red-wings have arrived in force and the males are responding with full courting mode - outdoing themselves with flashing epaulets and overtalk from high up in the canopy and down in the shrubbery. A few females seemed to have made their choices, flinging themselves down from the treetops to join the males with the finest colors and the biggest voices.
March 12, 2013. Red-winged Blackbirds are courting at the wetland. Siskins and Goldfinches are loud in great numbers. A few Goldfinches have begun to ripen.
