Congressman Tim Griffin of Arkansas has teamed up with Representative Michelle Bachmann in a doomed attempt to eliminate the "Obamaphone" program started during the Reagan administration. My belly laugh comes from the fact that the Universal Service Fund, which does not involve any taxpayer money, provided about $4.5 billion in 2012 to subsidize phone service to high cost rural service areas, but only $2.2 billion for phone service to needy families.
The rural Republicans who benefit the most from the program whine and resent it the most.
So it goes.
