Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

Will we all soon be talking steampunk?

I don't know, because I've been talking steampunk for years.

Do you have a hobby or interest that was once obscure but then became mainstream?

Add keywords that describe this diary. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

  •  Sorry, my hobbies have always been mainstream (11+ / 0-)

There are other areas of my life, mostly having to do with food and, um, recreation, that have been "watch me and wait a few years." I'm older now, so I'm off to bed. Laundry and two diaries to write tomorrow.

  •  Well, Noddy, if I actually start (7+ / 0-)

talking steampunk it will be because of you, lol. I'm pleased to say, I've been working on a crocheted choker that I'm designing just for the Octipodicon, and I've nearly completed the prototype. Pretty soon I'll be going into production and I'll have some pictures to show. When you see it you'll know why I'll say it was "inspired by the Octipodicon" ;)

I'm also gearing up to start making some more scarves and jewelry for my Zibbet shop. I just realized that I have only two warm weather scarves in stock! But to really get going I need to clear out some of my winter items, so I'm having an End of Winter sale as you all can see in my sig line. Check it out, because these are good deals on ooak and handmade items.

And finally, for those who haven't seen it - I've put up diary about the recent recall of Natura co. pet (dog, cat, and ferret) dry food. The diary link is HERE and it gives you links to a complete list of the recalled products. Please check it out and make sure you're not using any of those items. We don't want any of our critters to be getting sick!

And with that, good night all!

I have a room in house that is nothing but Legos (and other stuff). Heck played D&D a lot as a kid. Comic books. All those things these days people seem to not belittle as much as I recall as a kid. Kind of like them now. As I said the old "cool" is now the current "cool."

When opportunity calls pick up the phone and give it directions to your house.

  •  Is Quilting mainstream? (6+ / 0-)

I've been quilting for approx a year. Completed 2 quilts & belong to two guilds. My local guild & DK Quilt Guild. I have learned a lot & enjoying the process.  Come & join the fun Sundays 3pm (Pacific) 6pm (Eastern) for DKQG Diaries. We're very involved in raising funds with online Quilt Auction for the Okiciayp Food Pantry. Auction begins Weds, March 27th.

  •  Good morning everyone! (5+ / 0-)

I'm a beader, and soon to be a quilter (fingers crossed).  So like you say they are mainstream, but not popular.

    Have a good day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

That's the good news.  It's just 10 degrees and quite deceptive.  The sun so high in the sky makes it appear much warmer, at least until you open the damned door.  I'm off to the bus stop with all my extra winter gear on.  I hate dragging around all the weight but it can't be helped.

Hope everyone else is warm(er) and happy!

    •  Brrrr. (5+ / 0-)

When I retire, it will be to someplace with moderate temperatures that briefly flirt with freezing in winter - just enough to keep the insect population under control and provide cold stratification for perennials - and not so hot that everything bolts before they burn under a punishing sun.

of Arkansas a few years back.  We went to the Hot Springs area to hunt for crystals and were amazed at how mild it was there the week between Christmas and New Years.

I'm glad now that we stayed put.  I could have adjusted to the more conservative attitudes back then, but not the way they are now.  At least where I live in Iowa there are lots of sane people to counteract the fools.  :-)

Slept in this morning it seems, didn't get up until after 10, and then had to get the base house work etc done before I booted up the computer. Still have dishes to do and such but the floors are done.

Had some twitching last night but nothing overly major.

As for hobbies... I've always been a reader, and I've been playing RPG's (like D&D, Star Wars, Vampire: The Masquerade) since I was 12.
