Reid can kill that bill ... in just five notes.
And its not the principle of the thing -- it's about self-preservation -- preservation of the career senators' status-quo cushy seats.
Harry Reid kills assault weapons ban
by Jennifer Rubin, washingtonpost.com -- March 19, 2013
To no one’s surprise, at least no one following politics closely, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) effectively dumped the assault weapons ban in the gun bill that will go to the floor.
What is more, it is not certain even a robust background check bill will make it to the Senate floor:
Senior Senate Democratic aides called talk of the ban’s demise “premature,” but admitted that it is unlikely to be included as part of the broader package, which could be introduced by Reid as early as this week.
[...]
Michael Moore had a few choice words for the fold-like-a-lawn-chair democratic leader:
Michael Moore sat down with Piers Morgan tonight to react to the assault weapons ban dying quietly in the Senate without even being brought to a floor vote and how much influence the NRA has over members of Congress. Moore was particularly critical of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for letting the assault weapons ban go without even being voted on, remarking that if a crazed gunman killed Reid's grandchildren, he would not be so willing to let the ban die in the Senate.

America, You Must Not Look Away (How to Finish Off the NRA)
by Michael Moore -- Mar 13, 2013
[continuing from the opening WashPost article ...]
at the State of the Union speech, thundered that a list of gun violence victims “deserve” a vote on these sorts of measures. (“Gaby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. [...]
Reid doesn’t think so. And in fact no one “deserves” a vote on anything; the Senate leader decided he couldn’t prevail upon his members to cast a vote. [...] at least we can dispense with the notion that Republicans are standing in the way of assault weapons ban legislation.
Who needs Filibusters when they got Harry Reid?
The GOP certainly doesn't -- just whisper "boo" and the career senators, starting with Reid, will simply -- Get out the way FAST -- faster than the NRA can say "Primary Ads."
Because apparently in Reid's mind -- The victims of mass-assault Gun Violence DO NOT deserve a vote!
Not when such a vote might "do violence" to their own cushy congressional careers ...
What does "deserving" got to do with it anyways -- right Harry? Not when there are "Legislative Jobs" on the line ...
