I wrote a letter to the editor in 2000 in the Courier Journal when George W. Bush was running for President. I called the Republicans “borrow and spend”. That was during the 2000 campaign when Bush was saying
It's your money. You paid for it." - George W. Bush, LaCrosse, WI, Oct. 18, 2000.
My great Republican neighbor said with a disbelieving smile said “you don’t really believe it?” Well … Yes and I was right.
A recent post debunked the notion tax cuts pay for themselves.
What is especially galling is the hypocrisy of Republicans tolerating and encouraging massive increases in debit during Republican administrations then all the sudden when a Democrat becomes President Debt is a big problem.
Borrowing to funding the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, Medicare Part D Prescription Rx and Home Land Security while passing massive tax cuts.
2001 Bush tax cut Mitch voted Yea
2001 Bush tax cut Boehner, Cantor and Ryan voted Yea
2003 Bush tax cut Mitch voted Yea
2003 tax cut Boehner, Cantor and Ryan voted Yea
Some Republicans including Paul Ryan thought the Bush Tax cuts were too small.
Now Ryan, McConnell and Boehner want to cut (slow the growth?) of programs which benefit the poor and middle class. They have no moral center.
Both Ryan and Boehner are both Catholics. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent letters objecting to “…unacceptable cuts to hunger and nutrition programs …”. This statement is not unusual.
Pope Francis recently said [http://www.newsday.com/... "must open his arms to protect all of God's people and embrace with tender affection the whole of humanity, especially the poorest, the weakest, the least important."
I guess they pick and choose what to believe in their Religion.
