I will not be the millionth diary to whine about how horrible this is. I don't like it, and if it dies a quick death, I won't mourn it.
But seriously, folks, whatever we do, if we're going to respond negatively to it, let's not hide it behind the walls of Daily Kos. WE know that WE are angry, but that helps us, how?
Two things could be possible. Obama could be counting on the reaction to chained CPI to be so resoundingly negative that he has to take it off the table.
Or...
That first possibility could be a naive one, and he might actually think that's an acceptable policy. In which case, what can we do?
We need to stop waiting for some magic savior to come along, and be the perfect Democrat and the perfect opponent for the Republicans. We won't get it.
We've gotten to be a rather passive bunch, letting any and all setbacks convince us to be apathetic and still, letting the rather more vocal conservatives dominate the conversation.
What good is it to be less crazy and less stupid if you're not going to speak up to drown out the voices that are, or at least keep them from dominating the stage.
If all you come here to do is bitch about how politics isn't the way you want it, you'd be happier just looking up stuff on Wikipedia, following the Kardashians on one of those gossip sites, checking out the upcoming summer movies, or working your fantasy baseball league.
We need to make more of an impression than that. If we wonder why those folks on the right get all the plum spots, it's because they're pushy as hell, and they accused people who didn't concede to them of being biased against the Right.
Being quiet is what got us in this garbage in the first place. We let the victories of the right, back in the Eighties, intimidate us out of promoting our stands on things, and as time went on, the Republican's view got treated more and more like the paradigm.
And really, it wasn't our efforts that undid them, but their own failures. The crashed and burned so hard, we were the only option left.
If we didn't last, it's because we hadn't really earned it for ourselves. Instead, we took for granted that the majority would last, because hey, the other one had. Let's stop that BS. If we want it, if we think it represents our interests, we should back it, and let no one be confused where we stand.
Want a small start? Here's a simple one. Go to the White House Website, and let them know exactly what you've been letting everybody here know.
This one.
As of this point, there are only 1621 signatures on this petition. Surely, a website that's so angry about this matter can push us up higher than petitions for impeaching Obama, or keeping cigars unregulated. We got this forum right there for us to let him know what we feel directly, and we waste it.
We can do better than that. Let's unite to send Congress and the White House a message: don't touch the third rail.
