The Public Discussion Spin appears this morning to be, from what remains of support for The President's Budget Blunder (after outright insults didn't work), to come out swinging with broad-brush smears against those of us who dare to criticize, while continuing to post lists of his very real accomplishments.
I don't have a problem with the lists as a standalone defense. The man has done some great things and we all know that. Thing is, such a list should never include items which have yet to be passed. Not only is that egregious cherry-picking, it's dishonest.
Sunday morning talk ought to be real interesting. I usually deplore the DeeCee Fishbowl wonks stroking off all over our language, but I'll have to tune in tomorrow, to see how much hubris they're actually going to bring to the fight this week. Meantime, I will continue to say what I've been saying for the last couple of weeks--there is no division in this party over "President Obama's Budget". With the exception of a relative handful of increasingly-desperate players, we are all united against it. And we are united against it and we are going to stay united against it because It Is Madness. And if that means making this President look bad, then he can fix that any time. I'll be damned if I'll sit back and let any Democrat--let alone our President--act as if the cornerstone of the American "New Deal" is a sacred cow.
No amount of outright insults, subtle sophistry, or Third Way spin is going to shut me up this time, even if it does pull a page out of Bing Crosby's songbook trying to do it. There cannot possibly be enough "good" in this budget to offset the fallout of this Chained CPI nonsense. Take it off the table, NOW, Mr. President.
