Received this e-mail today from Senator Claire McCaskill (D. MO) in support of Elizabeth Colbert Busch's (D) campaign for the 2013 South Carolina Special Election:
Remember Mark Sanford?

He was all over the news a few years back after secretly abandoning his post as governor of South Carolina and using tax dollars to visit his mistress in Argentina. All the while, his staff used the excuse that the governor's absence was just due to him "hiking the Appalachian trail."

Well, Sanford's back, hoping to stage his political comeback in the special election for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District on May 7.

We have a lot of important issues going on in Congress right now, and the last thing we need is another self-serving, far-right Republican in the House.

Fortunately, Elizabeth Colbert Busch -- an incredibly strong campaigner who would make a great congresswoman -- is Sanford's Democratic opponent.

Polls show this race as a toss-up -- impressive given that this district has been considered a Republican stronghold.

But I know firsthand that it's possible for a Democrat to win, even when the pundits count her out -- and especially when running against an infamous Republican -- so I know Elizabeth can win.

Right now, the Republican Party is saying -- at least publicly -- they're pulling their resources out of this race, too embarrassed to defend Sanford after he was caught trespassing at his ex-wife's house.

That's what the Republicans said when I ran against Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin last year, but they lied. They came back to massively fund Akin in the homestretch of our campaign, and they'll do the same for Sanford.

Please help give Elizabeth some of that grassroots power you gave me last year, so she can stand up to Sanford and the Republican Party's ad blitz that's sure to come over these final days of this campaign.

I'm looking forward to welcoming Elizabeth to the U.S. Capitol.

Thanks for your help,

I'm glad to see McCaskill campaign for Colbert Busch.  Especially since Colbert-Busch's brother, Stephen, gave her the Colbert Bump last year:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
