Newtown is holding discussions about tearing down the old school and building a new one on the exact site.
I have a better proposal.
I agree that the tragic loss of these small innocent lives are so traumatic that many parents could not possibly return to that school without emotional harm. I do feel like returning to the site is just as bad. A new building built upon the same site does nothing IMO. As a parent who drops their child off at school everyday, the memory of just turning on to the property would raise emotional scars for me. I could not do it.
A different building at a different location is a choice I would have to make for my own mental health even if involved moving to a different district. That being said..Have the officials thought of tearing down the building and making a memorial garden out of the
Sandy Hook school grounds? As far as a new building in the same site..I feel is not going to change much. Looking at the different schools and the bus routes is another consideration. In other words, assigning buses and children into already established
elementary schools in the area. Dividing up the students to attend other schools with monies being spent on the other schools with more classrooms, additional bus routes to get the children to the other schools and accomodate the existing schools in the district with more teachers , transportation and use that money to help the district. To, use the money even in a bond situation or federal funds, to make a memorial garden for the lives lost at Sandy Hook and rememberance of the young lives lost.
The ground in my opinion is hallowed ground and at such young ages, the attendees of the school, from the lunch ladies to the children, should not be expected to return to such a horrific site. The images do not need to come up with the entrance of the same school grounds and a new building will not ease the pain that much, IMO. The teachers are always going to be reminded of the warzone area that took place in that location.
I feel if I were sitting in that position of power, I would do away with all and any school at that particuliar location and basically send the children to other elementary schools and put the money in the exiting education buildings in place. I would completely turn the Sandy Hook Grounds into a memorial site.
I have read some pretty unfeeling comments on the link and it is all about the money.
Money should not even be an issue regarding this tragedy at Sandy Hook.
